The USSSA Florida Pride (16-10) had an unstoppable night of home runs against the Akron Racers (10-17). The Akron Racers attempted a come-back in the bottom of the seventh inning against the Pride but only managed to score one run before ending the game 11-1.
The home run parade kicked off when Jessica Mendoza blasted a two-run home run in the top of the second inning, giving the USSSA Florida Pride (16-10) a combined 3-0 lead after two. Charlotte Morgan then hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Finally, Lauren Lappin and Jamee Juarez both hit solo home runs in the seventh inning making a combined score of 11.
The Racers' first hit of the game came in the fourth inning when catcher Sam Marder hit the ball to center field, earning herself a single.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Racers began to mount a comeback when Taylor Schlopy showed off her speed with a double. One batter later, Sharonda McDonald smacked a single, putting Schlopy at third base. Modglin reciprocated with another single, bringing Schlopy home for the Racers' only run of the game.
Brittany Mack (W, 4-3) pitched all seven innings against the Racers, earning seven strikeouts, one run on five hits and ending with an ERA of 3.93.
Erin Arevalo (L, 0-2) started off in the pitching circle for the Racers increasing her ERA from 4.50 to 4.85. She had four strikeouts, four walks and six runs on three hits. Hillary Bach stepped in during the fourth inning, pitching 2.1 innings making her ERA a 3.90. Bach had two strikeouts and allowed three runs on five hits.
Jen Mineau appeared in the seventh inning, allowing two runs on two hits and raising her ERA to 5.42.
