Akron Racers’ GM Joey Arrietta recently announced the re-signing of 2010 National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Pitcher of the Year, Lisa Norris, and 2011 All-NPF Pitcher Kristina Thorson, to the Racers 2012 roster.
“Thorson and Norris have been our two most dominant pitchers the last few seasons,” said Arrietta. “Our rotation is very solid with these two leading the way from the circle.”
Thorson appeared in 17 games and started 12 of them, which led her to seven complete games and an ERA of 2.12 with a record of 9-3. Thorson earned the most wins on the pitching staff and threw for 89.1 innings. Her 2.12 ERA was the best on the team. Thorson was named to the All-NPF team as a pitcher in 2011.
“To be the best we have to beat the best,” added Arrietta. “Thorson’s record against the Bandits is very strong and with Chicago coming off a Championship and having a strong roster we’ll need her to perform well again this season against her former team.”
Thorson finished 2011 with a 4-1 record in the regular season against the Bandits and suffered an additional loss against Chicago in the playoffs. However, Thorson was electric in the playoff matchup, pitching six solid innings while allowing just one earned run and striking out five batters.
2010 NPF Pitcher of the Year Lisa Norris has also agreed to a new contract with the Akron Racers. Norris finished 2011 with an 8-10 record in 113.1 innings pitched in 21 games. She struck out 103 batters while walking 47. Norris finished the season with two saves in relief work.
“We have seen how great Norris can be in the circle,” said Arrietta. “Last season she pitched a lot of innings for the Racers; we hope to lighten the load a little bit this season and provide more run support for all of our pitchers.”
The Akron Racers open the 2012 season on June 7 with a regular season opener against the newly formed Carolina Diamonds. Season tickets for the 2012 season are on sale now and can be ordered by calling (330) 376-8188.
